It is nice to include kids of all ages when hosting a party, especially when many of the prospective guests have children. A Labor Day celebration is especially fun. Since it encompasses a three-day weekend, planning and hosting the event does not have to be an overwhelming task. It can be fun for everyone. Consider using these fun party ideas for kids. These activities will keep them entertained all afternoon and into the evening hours, and everyone in attendance should have a great time.
Make a Giant Dart Ball Game
While in the planning stages of your Labor Day party, design a giant dart ball game. Mount a big square of blue or black felt on a thick piece of cardboard. It is sold by the yard at many discount stores. Next, top a large white felt circle with a yellow circle of the appropriate size. Place a red felt bullseye in the center. Buy a package of dart balls, or make a set using ping pong balls and the looped side of peel and stick Velcro brand fasteners. Punch holes across the top of the cardboard backing, and hang the game from a tree limb. Alternately, you can mount the game against a solid backing such as a garden shed or garage. Kids can take turns tossing the balls and keeping score.
Set Up a Cookie Decorating Table
Cookie decorating is a fantastic activity for kids, especially at an outdoor party since the crumbs can be easily brushed away. Buy ready-made sugar cookie dough. Roll it out as directed, and cut it into flags, flowers, circles and any other shapes of your choice. Bake the cookies the day before your Labor Day festivities. Provide the kids with colored frosting, edible stars, jimmies, bits of candy and any other toppings desired. Allow two cookies per child. They will have a great time decorating and eating their tasty Labor Day treats.
Rent an Inflatable Slide or Castle
Cookie decorating and a homemade outdoor dart ball game will keep the kids at your Labor Day party busy for a while, but not all day long. If you want to provide them with something that will keep them entertained from start to finish, rent an inflatable slide or castle. Although it is not a cheap option for entertainment, it is by far the best choice. It is well worth the cost of the rental since the kids in attendance will not become bored or tired of sliding and/or bouncing. They will not want the celebration to end.
